Welcome, Class of 1T3

By Jimmy Lu, President, Engineering Society

Every year we’re rejuvenated with the potential of the incoming year. It was our great honour to welcome the recent class of IT3 this past weekend. After our longest F!rosh week in recent memory, it is obvious that the class of 1T3 has proven themselves to be an exceptional group. That said, their appetite for events, services and spirit is insatiable. That is why the Engineering Society has several plans for expansion and refinement this year.

First is our new website skule.ca. A simpler, more intuitive and dynamic website allows us to provide up-to-date information for recent or upcoming events, easier access on ways to get involved, and increase the general functionality of one of our most important communication tools. This is all thanks to Rafal Dittwald, our Engineering Society Webmaster, and his extremely dedicated and capable web development committee.

In addition, we are in the midst of revamping our student space, the Sandford Fleming Atrium. With new tables, chairs and a counter coming soon, the project is near completion and will allow us to better enjoy this multi-use space. Eating, studying and social gatherings will benefit from this renovation. We hope to see you there!

Lastly, we’ve taken on the ambitious project of running the Engineering Career Fair, spearheaded by last year’s Engineering Society President, Jonathan Asmis. We hope to make it bigger, better and more effective for our students (despite economic conditions). With more companies, more attendees, and the hope to create one of Canada’s largest career fairs, we plan to provide our students this unprecedented level of service.

This is really just a glimpse of the many and diverse services we currently provide and those we are expanding. The initiative and potential every Engineer here has to improve the student experience amazes us. The class of 1T3 will be no exception. Keep a look out in your inbox, Facebook, posters and skule.ca for our many new initiatives this year!
