Student Leaders Recognize Value of Alumni Support

On March 2, 2010 fourteen student club leaders participated in the Faculty’s second Thank-a-thon and called 375 alumni and staff who recently made gifts to the Skule™ Fund for Education.

Alumni support gives students the opportunity to participate in 59 student clubs, ranging from photography to the U of T Concrete Canoe Team. Student clubs, in turn, help students meet life-long friends, learn new skills, and develop their leadership potential.

Simon Guan

Simon Guan (ChemE 1T0) participated in both the fall and this recent Thank-a-thon and values the dedication of alumni. He serves as President of the Chinese Engineering Student Association, Vice president external relations for the University of Toronto Water Environment Association of Ontario and co-chair of the Environmental Management Committee, all groups that receive support from the Skule™ Fund.

“The Skule™ Fund alleviates start-up costs associated with clubs and gives students confidence to run major events, such as the Environmental Consulting and Design Competition, as well as the Little Engineers Competition”, says Simon.

Gifts made to the Skule™ Fund represent an investment in our students, our future alumni. “It inspires current students to remember their roots, especially when they achieve great success,” explains Simon who spent a full evening thanking alumni.

For those who Simon could not reach, he would like to express the following: “I truly appreciate your financial support and will put forth my greatest effort to apply your contribution to events and groups that generate valuable experiences, skills, and networks for all of us.”
