Engineering Alumni Hall of Distinction Award | Howard Goodfellow | ChemE 6T4, MASc 6T5, PhD 6T8

Howard Goodfellow

As a leader in Clean Technology, Howard Goodfellow has established a number of businesses that provide critical guidance in environmental management and control.

Currently President of Tenova Goodfellow Inc., Howard is internationally known for the Goodfellow Expert Furnace System Optimization Process (EFSOP®) technology he developed and commercialized in 1998. This application is now being extended to other combustion intensive industries to improve energy efficiency and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

Howard is also a global authority on industrial and mine ventilation. As a result of his design guidebooks and numerous technical publications in international journals and conferences, he pioneered new standards for industrial and mine ventilation. Other accomplishments include:

  • Adjunct Professor in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at U of T, 1980-2006
  • Canada’s National Energy Efficiency Award, 1999
  • Recipient of the R&D 100 Award for developing one of the top 100 most technologically significant new products and processes of the year, 2000
  • Ontario Professional Engineers Award, 2007
