L.E. (Ted) Jones Award of Distinction | Mark Jeffrey | EngSci 0T8 + PEY

Mark Jeffrey

When it comes to Engineering and music, Mark Jeffrey found the best of both worlds at U of T.

During Mark’s education, both his academic career and music life flourished. Making the Dean’s List each year and playing in the Stage Band, Jazz Combo and Skule™ Nite Orchestra is what Mark’s Skule™ experience has been like. Moreover, he and David Rutt (L.E. Jones Award 2008) co-founded Skule™ Stage Band Blue, consisting mostly of First Year students, to accommodate an overwhelming spike in interest for the Skule™ Stage Band. Other accomplishments include:

  • Percussion instructor/counselor at National Music Camp of Canada, 2003-2009
  • U of T Scholar, 2004
  • Canada Millennium Scholarship Excellence Award, 2006
  • Canadian Army University Course Award, 2006
  • Directed Skule™ Jazz Combo, and taught and led a Skule™ Nite Percussion Ensemble of nonpercussionists, 2006-2007
  • Directed Skule™ Stage Band and Skule™ Stage Band Blue, 2007-2009
  • Founding director of Engineering Music Exchange (a two-concert festival that celebrates the musical talents of Engineering students at U of T and the University of Waterloo)
