Honours & Awards


Professor Grant Allen, Vice Dean, Undergraduate, Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, has been named a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC). The CIC is the umbrella organization for the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering (CSChE), Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) and Canadian Society for Chemical Technology (CSCT). CIC Fellowships are granted to individuals for exceptional contributions to the chemical professions. Professor Allen will be awarded his Fellowship at the CSChE conference in Ottawa this October. 

Dean Cristina Amon, Professor and Dean Emeritus Michael Charles, Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, and Professor Alberto Leon-Garcia, The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, were named Fellows of the Engineering Institute of Canada in recognition of their exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada. They will be honoured at the Institute’s Annual Awards Banquet in Ottawa on March 1, 2008. 

Professor Emeritus Peter Hughes, Institute for Aerospace Studies, has been named a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Fellowships are awarded in recognition of notable and valuable contributions to aeronautics or astronautics. Professor Emeritus Hughes will be honoured at the Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala in Washington D.C. on May 14, 2008. 

University Professor Michael Sefton, Institute for Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, received the Founders Award from the Society for Biomaterials. The Founders Award is awarded in recognition of long-term, landmark contributions to the discipline of biomaterials.
