U of T Engineering to Offer New Certificate in Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Innovation and Technology in Engineering (ELITE)

Starting this Spring, the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto will offer a new engineering graduate certificate called: Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Innovation and Technology in Engineering (ELITE).

“The ELITE certificate is geared to those whose focus is in engineering, but who also want to take a leadership role in their technology, business and knowledge-base environments, motivate teams, foster and manage innovations, and embrace global opportunities,” said Professor Cristina Amon, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering.

The first of its kind in Canada, the ELITE certificate complements a range of leadership curriculum and programming offered by Engineering at U of T. The new ELITE courses are also integrated into the existing Master of Engineering (MEng) program.

To graduate with the ELITE certificate, students will be required to take four courses out of an initial offering of eight courses in topics ranging from Entrepreneurship and Business for Engineers to Leadership and Leading in Groups and Organizations.

“The ELITE certificate is intended to be a career enhancement opportunity within the engineering context,” said Brenda McCabe, Chair of Civil Engineering and former Vice-Dean Graduate Studies.  “It’s a non-traditional complement to our existing Engineering Master’s degree with global perspective to learn a special skill set and gain a competitive advantage.”
