Ontario Helps Students with Textbook Bills

U of T students can head to the bookstore with smiles on their faces, thanks to the Ontario government's textbook and technology grant, announced last fall by John Milloy, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.

The grant aids full-time students at the province's universities and community colleges in paying for their textbooks and computer needs by providing each of them with $150 during the 2009-10 academic year.

"The university is pleased to see the province offer this support to post-secondary students," said Jill Matus, vice-provost (students). "It provides additional recognition of the growing importance of a university education in society and to the economy."

Students must have applied for and qualify for a Canada-Ontario Integrated Student loan. Applications must be made no later than 90 days before the end of a student's study period. For students only enrolled for one term, application must be made within the first 30 days of the study period.

Visit the OSAP Ontario website for additional information about the grant.
