Message from Dean, Cristina Amon

New Executive Director, Advancement, Appointed

With over 10 years of fundraising experience, Vanessa Abaya has been serving as Director, Major Gifts, at the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation, for the past two and a half years. During this time, she supervised and implemented the major gift program to complete the Foundation's $400 million campaign, a significant accomplishment that included record results in 2007. Ms Abaya also built a strong staff complement within the Foundation.
 Vanessa Abaya
Previous to her role at Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation, Ms Abaya was employed by the Royal Ontario Museum Governors, first as a Development Officer, Annual Giving, and later as the Officer in the major gifts area. In these capacities she increased revenue, worked closely with the Museum and ROM Governors and identified and cultivated relationships with donors. A major focus of her work as part of Renaissance ROM was to help broaden support for the Museum by working with volunteers from many of Toronto's diverse communities.

In both her current and previous positions, Ms Abaya is highly regarded for her proven advancement track record, her focus and ability to achieve results, her outstanding ambassadorial and motivational capabilities as well as for being a team leader with the ability to strategically communicate a strong vision and see it through to completion.

Ms Abaya received her BA from Simon Fraser University and completed an Income Managers Program, Centre for Cultural Management, at the University of Waterloo.

As Executive Director, Advancement, Ms Abaya has strong skill sets and experience to work together with the team of development professionals, faculty, alumni and volunteers to empower the Faculty to advance its strategic priorities, engage its stakeholders and enhance its reputation though leadership in alumni relations and fundraising.

Please join me in welcoming Vanessa Abaya to the Engineering team. Her first day will be Monday, April 7, 2008.
