A Message from Dean Cristina Amon

The Faculty underwent an External Review on May 5-6. In preparation, we developed a Faculty Self-Study, an intensive, deeply reflective document that highlights our achievements as well as the challenges that lie ahead. I am delighted to report that the reviewers enthusiastically praised the Faculty for our accomplishments, progress and performance over the past five years. They also shared some insightful observations – many of which were included as part of our Self Study.

As Dean, I am particularly proud of our connection with over 40,000 of our engineering alumni around the world. Over the past few weeks we welcomed over 400 alumni for a series of events and reunions, the largest of which included 322 alumni returning to campus for Spring Reunion. Our network continues to grow, with the graduation of almost 1000 students this month. I encourage our alumni worldwide to welcome our newest graduates as they move into the next phase of their engineering careers. Like you, they aspire to create a better world. We are confident that they will achieve similar success as the alumni and professors you read about in this issue and expect that they will remain connected with their alma mater.

I am honoured to lead this Faculty for another term. I look forward to collaborating with our dynamic Skule™ community of alumni, professors, students, staff, industry partners, and friends to secure U of T Engineering’s position as a global leader in engineering education and innovative, high-impact research.

I wish you and your family a relaxing, rewarding summer and look forward to reconnecting next autumn.

Cristina Amon
