National Engineering Month

March is a time for us to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of our profession.

As engineers, we imagine, create and design the devices, technologies and processes that once were thought impossible. We convert scientific concepts into mainstream applications that advance our quality of life and global economy – like alum Michael Serbinis (MIE), who is revolutionizing the way we enjoy literature through his Kobo eReader, or Heather Tippin (CivE), who established her own business consulting practice supporting global technology firms. Our contributions affect every facet of life and ultimately lead to a prosperous society.

Your alma mater continues our commitment to educating and nurturing the next generation of engineering pioneers who will create tomorrow's technology. On behalf of the Faculty, I am proud to announce that we are the first in Canada to introduce a new Engineering Business Minor and two new undergraduate certificates in Engineering Business and in Global Engineering, as well as a Minor in Robotics and Mechatronics and a PhD with a concentration in Clinical Engineering. These additions to our curriculum enhance student learning and ensure we remain at the forefront of engineering education.

This month, we also honour 17 engineering students for their exemplary initiatives which include advocating for education in sustainable engineering and organizing events to promote diversity and innovation. Their accomplishments demonstrate that we are training a cadre of future alumni who will creatively strive to meet society's demands.

Thank you, our alumni, for your generous spirit and your commitment to our profession, to engineering education and to Skule™. There is much to celebrate and much more to achieve.

Cristina Amon
Dean
