Dean's Message

As the first month of 2008 draws to a close, our Faculty is seeing tremendous opportunities for our academic programs and remarkable growth in our research endeavours.

You may have heard that more students have applied to Ontario universities this year with a 4.8% increase of Ontario applicants. In recent history, undergraduate programs in Engineering across North America have experienced a decline in interest among undergraduates and our application numbers once mirrored this trend. This year, we have received a record number of applications to Engineering at U of T with a 10% increase in first-choice Ontario applicants and nearly 20% increase in international applicants.

Congratulations to all of you – from our recruiters and undergraduate counselors, to all of Engineering's staff, students and faculty. Our next step is to have a successful post-offer recruitment season, which involves many events at U of T and out-of-Province visits. Thank you for your dedication and efforts in this last important step to recruit the brightest students. We are all ambassadors for Engineering at U of T and it is up to each and every one of us to communicate the academic excellence of our Engineering education, the richness of our students’ experiences and to prepare our Engineering graduates for what lies ahead.
