Renzo Basset Receives the 2009 Agnes Kaneko Award
Director of Technical Services for the Department of Civil Engineering, Renzo Basset, was awarded the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Agnes Kaneko Award in honour of his long-standing exemplary service to the Faculty.
This award was established in 1990 in memory of Agnes Kaneko, a secretary in the Department of Civil Engineering for 16 years, who was known for the excellence of her work and her dedication to the Faculty. It is presented annually to a staff member who has made outstanding contributions to the Faculty over a long period of time.
Mr. Basset has been a staff member in CivE since 1982, when he took a position as a research associate directly after obtaining his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in the Department. He graduated top of his class from his undergraduate studies, earning the Department’s W.S. Wilson Award. Mr. Basset is now responsible for the operation and management of more than 10 teaching and research laboratories and the supervision of all technical staff in CivE. He also coordinates and co-teaches both modules of the CivE and MinE survey camp at Gull Lake. He has attended and instructed at every camp held since 1987. Additionally, Bassett serves as Co-Chair of the Departmental Safety Committee and served on search committees for the current Dean and the current Chair of CivE.
"Renzo Basset exemplifies the qualities of dedication, commitment and excellence honoured by the Agnes Kaneko Award,” said Cristina Amon, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. "We received a number of inspiring applications this year and I would like to extend my gratitude to all staff who are committed to providing an outstanding working environment."
Mr. Basset was presented with this award at Faculty Council on May 27, 2009.
