ECE Teaching Assistant Vinod Muthusamy Wins TATP Teaching Excellence Award

PhD candidate Vinod Muthusamy of The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has received a Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Toronto Teaching Assistants Training Program (TATP), one of only five TAs across the University selected from over 350 nominations to receive this award. The TATP Teaching Excellence Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of Teaching Assistants at the University of Toronto.

Vinod is a graduate student in the Middleware Systems Research Group under the supervision of Hans-Arno Jacobsen. He has served as a TA for a number of ECE and MIE courses. This year he was appointed Head TA for ECE 297: Communication and Design, which involved overseeing over more than 20 TAs in a course with approximately 300 students. He not only made valuable contributions to the design of the labs, assignments and exams, but also ensured that all the course’s students received personalized attention, which can be difficult to provide in such a large course.

“Our Teaching Assistants are an essential part of the Faculty’s educational mission,” said Cristina Amon, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. “I am grateful to the TATP for recognizing Vinod Muthusamy’s contributions and the important role of all our TAs.”

Mr. Muthusamy will be invited, along with the other award winners, to participate in a panel discussion as part of the TATP’s annual TA Day in September.
