Innovation and Research

The arrival of a new year brings U of T Engineering another twelve months to reconfirm and work toward our goals, many of which aim to improve the lives of Canadians through forward-thinking projects. The Faculty is no stranger to innovative thought — the cutting-edge research conducted by our faculty and students not only addresses the problems of today, but anticipates solutions for future challenges.

A fall issue of the Engineering Student eNews showcased the conceptual design for the Centre for Engineering Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Once its doors open, the Centre will foster an open environment to enhance collaborative learning and multidisciplinary thinking. Research, innovation and business are natural partners, and, it's with this knowledge that U of T has built a culture of entrepreneurship that has resulted in the emergence of new start-ups on campus every year.

Engineering students, through the application of their education to real-world issues, contribute a great deal to the spirit of innovation and business at U of T. Whether it is drones to help the movie business, creating car parts using renewable resources, or receiving awards for creating software that connect students with employers, there is no doubt 2014 will provide students with another year of fresh and creative thinking and opportunity.
